Today, I went to Mass at the Manchester Oratory. While waiting for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, I picked up a prayer card for Pedro. I was moved by the story of this young man who suffered and died so bravely offering everything to God. I asked for his intercession for family unity. But I did not want to go to my mother and sisters. I knew peace needed to be made but I was struggling to overcome my wounded feelings.
Why should I be the one to apologise? Why is it always me who has to defer to others? I didn’t want to. There is no way I could have done this myself. But I believe it was this young man’s intercession that obtained for me the grace to heal the breach. What was a difficult thing for me has now given all of us the prospect of a truly peaceful Christmas to look forward to. It may seem a small miracle to some, but a miracle none the less.
I am truly grateful to this remarkable young man. I believe him to be a great saint. Thank you Pedro.
