I have a cousin who moved to another country, where her husband is from. She declares herself an atheist, and no one in her family practises their faith.
A few months ago, she was diagnosed with very advanced oesophageal cancer and has undergone several treatments. When she was at her worst, both physically and emotionally, I sent her a picture of Pedro, explained who he was. I told her that even though I knew she had no faith, I was going to ask Pedro to help her. I told her to ask him too because, even though she has no faith, I knew that Pedro would do her good and understand her.
In less than a month, the message was: “Dear cousins: the PET scan results seem to show that the carcinoma has disappeared, with all due caution. No operation for now. I'm having another PET scan in six weeks. I still can't believe it...”
I thank Pedro for listening to me again when I asked for his help, as he has done so many times in so many small worries, but this is an amazing favour!
