I have a 13-year-old nephew who finds studying very difficult. He has been told he has ‘textbook’ dyslexia. My sister, a widow, has taken him to various specialists to find out if there were any medical or psychological causes, etc. They tell her it is a lack of maturity and something of an emotional nature, perhaps due to the death of his father when he was just three years old.

The fact is that every year, throughout the academic year, he needs help with his homework, studying, and so on. This causes him a great deal of stress because he doesn’t want to study. It takes an enormous effort on his part.

In June, as the exams were approaching, I began a novena to Pedro Ballester, praying that my nephew would pass his exams (something that seemed practically impossible). After that, I didn’t dare ask my sister via WhatsApp because I know how much this situation upsets her. So I waited until I saw her in person to ask. When we met in early July, I asked her, ‘How did it go?’ and she replied, ‘Haven’t I told you? A miracle! He’s passed everything!’ I told her I had entrusted the matter to Pedro Ballester, and she thanked me.

Now I pray that my nephew will overcome the difficulties that are preventing him from enjoying his studies, as otherwise he’s a good lad – obedient and hard-working when it comes to practical tasks.
